Lafayette Becomes First Public School With Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Program Onsite to Host the Annual National ASL and English Bilingual Consortium for Early Childhood Education Summit
From April 17 - 19, 2026 Lafayette hosted the NASLECE's annual ECE summit. This year's theme was Bridging Silos, Building Futures: Strengthening Foundations of Early Childhood Success. The summit aimed to bring together professionals to explore innovative approaches in ASL and English bilingual education for young Deaf and hard of hearing children. Workshops ranged from a variety of topics such as genuine engagement with multilingual families, mentoring within resource deserts, and developing literacy through storytelling. Keynote presenters included:
- Nancy Hilbok Amann, Ph.D., California Department of Education Director of State Special Schools and Services Division
- Cory Hoffman, M.Ed., San Diego Unified School District Central Office Resource Teacher for the DHH Program
- And Lafayette's very own Beth Gallimore, M.S.Ed., Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher!
